Natural materials
Inspired by Mother Nature, COCO-MAT uses only natural and recyclable materials to manufacture its products.
Materials such as cotton, coconut fibres, natural rubber, seagrass, eucalyptus, solid wood, horsehair, linen, wool, cactus and lavender, sourced from Greece and Europe, form the basic elements of all products.
Cotton
Cotton - A light, comfortable, soft material that keeps us cool by allowing the body to breathe. A pleasant fabric and naturally hypoallergenic, with impressive water-absorbing properties.
Coconut fiber
The outer shell of the familiar coconut is a mass of thin, durable fibers. These are extracted, layered, and used in our products after adding liquid natural rubber for greater elasticity. Coconut fibers are known for their durability and excellent insulating properties, while also ensuring adequate ventilation in the final product.
Natural rubber
Natural rubber comes in the form of a milky sap and is tapped from the trunk of the tropical Hevea tree. Using a traditional method, the sap is converted into an elastic substance and then processed into layers. Natural rubber is an exceptionally durable material with a porous texture that allows for sufficient ventilation. Moreover, it is known to be an inhospitable environment for microbes and bacteria.
Seagrass
Seagrass is a rare treasure, thriving in abundance in Greece's renowned seas and coasts. We carefully collect and clean it. Seagrass contains iodine, an essential component of thyroid hormones and vital for good health. Seagrass is served as a salad in Greece and as sushi worldwide. It has anti-allergic properties, including those that combat allergies, asthma, and respiratory ailments.
Eucalyptus
Known and highly respected for their soothing properties and characteristic fragrance, these fragrant leaves have traditionally been used as a remedy. They help strengthen the immune system, relieve respiratory complaints, and have a positive effect on concentration. We use dried eucalyptus leaves, which exude their refreshing scent.
Wood
Wood – a material known for its flexibility and maximum strength. COCO-MAT uses solid wood that is strictly non-chemically treated, allowing the quality, grace, and authentic beauty of this centuries-old material to shine.
Horsehair
Horsehair creates a dry environment and is beneficial for people with rheumatism, thanks to its moisture-regulating properties. The material we use comes from the horse's mane and tail. It is formed in layers and then sprayed with natural rubber for added elasticity.
Linen
Linen comes from a humble plant, but it has a rich history as one of the finest textiles in the world. Linen fabrics are luxuriously soft, exceptionally absorbent, and highly durable. Linen is known as a "cool fabric," especially suited for the warmer seasons.
Wool
Thanks to its unique insulating properties, wool may be the only material that can keep us warm in winter and cool in summer. With its astonishing ability to absorb a third of its weight in water, it naturally regulates ambient humidity.
Cactus
This hardy plant has been an inhabitant of this planet for nearly 35 million years. Yet its rare properties have remained virtually untouched by human ingenuity. We use its extremely robust and resilient fibers—in thin layers—to regulate moisture and maintain a dry environment.
Lavender
A fragrant shrub native to the para-Mediterranean regions and renowned for its medicinal properties, which our ancestors knew how to utilize. The essential oil is widely used in cosmetics, perfumes, balms, and medicines. COCO-MAT uses dried lavender flower buds in and under pillows to promote restful sleep and relaxation.
All COCO-MAT sleep products are handmade and can be custom-made in our own factory in Xanthi, Northern Greece. The 25,000 m² factory has a virtually neutral carbon footprint.
With the wisdom of nature as a guide and source of inspiration, COCO-MAT creates innovative sleep products using natural materials that can all be replenished naturally and are therefore sustainable, such as coconut fibre, natural rubber, wool, cotton, goose down, oak, seagrass, eucalyptus, horsehair and cactus fibre.
COCO-MAT combines the unique and inherent qualities of each material to create an unparalleled sleep experience: Sleep on Nature
